Day 1: Nairobi – Samburu Game Reserve

Arrive at JKIA and meet your safari guide. Drive through scenic plantations to Samburu, known for rare wildlife like Grevy’s zebra and reticulated giraffe. After lunch, relax before an afternoon game drive.

Day 2: Samburu Game Reserve

Enjoy an early morning game drive, relax at the lodge, then head out for a 4:00 PM safari. Optional Samburu cultural performance in the evening.

Day 3: Samburu – Lake Nakuru

Day 4: Lake Nakuru – Maasai Mara

Day 5: Maasai Mara

Passports & Visas:

Visitors need a valid passport (valid for at least six months) and return tickets. Entry visas (ETA) must be obtained online in advance via https://www.etakenya.go.ke/en. If visiting other East African countries, separate visas are required.


Entry Requirements:

Visas are required for certain nationalities. Yellow fever and cholera vaccinations are not mandatory but may be recommended. If traveling from a yellow fever-infected area, a vaccination certificate is required.


Departure Tax:

Usually included in your airline ticket. If not, it must be paid in foreign currency at the airport.


Customs:

Personal items like cameras are allowed without a permit. Large electronic equipment may require a customs bond. Firearms are prohibited unless authorized.


Travel Insurance:

Comprehensive travel insurance covering medical emergencies, cancellations, baggage loss, and evacuation is mandatory.


Health & Vaccinations:

No vaccinations are required, but yellow fever proof is needed if arriving from an infected area. Malaria precautions are advised. Consult your doctor about recommended vaccines and medications before travel. Avoid swimming in stagnant water to prevent Bilharzia.


Language:

Swahili is the national language, and English is widely spoken. Guides are available in multiple languages, including Spanish, Russian, French, and German.


Currency & Payments:

The Kenyan Shilling (Ksh) is the local currency. Foreign currency can be exchanged at banks, hotels, and forex bureaus. Credit cards are widely accepted in major hotels and lodges, but cash is preferred in rural areas. ATMs are available in cities.


Tipping Guidelines:

Tipping is customary and appreciated for safari guides, camp staff, porters, and waiters. The amount is at your discretion, based on the quality of service provided.


Electricity:

Kenya uses 220/240V AC, 50 Hz. Power outlets require three-pronged UK-style plugs. Many safari camps use generators, and power may be available only at certain times.


Communication:

Mobile networks (Safaricom, Airtel, Telkom) cover most areas. Safari camps may use radio communication where network coverage is limited. Hotels offer Wi-Fi, but speeds vary.


Water Safety:

Drink only bottled or filtered water. Avoid tap water, ice, and raw vegetables in remote areas.


Security & Safety:

Take standard precautions: avoid carrying large sums of cash, keep valuables in hotel safes, avoid walking alone at night, and be mindful when taking photos, especially near government or military buildings.
